More than two thirds of clients at nursing home in Lutrini diagnosed with Covid-19
RIGA, Jan 14 (LETA) - More than two thirds of clients at the nursing home Abele in Lutrini, a municipality in Saldus Region, have fallen ill with Covid-19, the nursing home's head Sarmite Kusniruka informed LETA.
Of the nursing home's 46 clients, only 14 are currently healthy, Kusniruka said.
She said that all clients and employees of the nursing home were tested for Covid-19 at the end of last year and the tests all came back negative. "But already on January 4 and 5 some employees reported increased body temperatures," Kusniruka said. Repeated testing revealed 24 Covid-19 cases among the clients and 11 cases among their caregivers. Another seven clients and four employees tested positive for the coronavirus on January 12.
The head of the nursing home said that the infected clients' health condition is currently stable with only some showing symptoms like high temperature. The infected clients are receiving the necessary medical assistance.
According to information provided by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases in Saldus Region is 103.
