Liepāja 2027 Opens Doors for New Volunteers to Join the Team
February 10, 2026
The following is a press release:
As the anticipation builds towards Liepāja's year as European Capital of Culture 2027, Foundation “Liepāja 2027” extends an invitation for new participants to join its expanding volunteer corps programme “Mission (un)rest”. Currently supported by 93 volunteers, the initiative seeks to strengthen community participation in cultural life whilst fostering international cooperation and skills development through to the end of 2027.
The volunteer programme offers participants a substantive opportunity to engage directly in the creation and delivery of cultural events, providing insight into the mechanics of large-scale event organisation. Responsibilities include tasks such as welcoming guests and cultivating positive atmospheres, managing visitor flows, administering ticket verification, gathering visitor feedback, distributing informational materials, providing real-time event updates, offering accessibility support to individuals with disabilities, and undertaking additional organisational duties as required.
Izabella Džeriņa, Volunteer Coordinator for Liepāja 2027, articulates the ethos underlying the recruitment: “This programme is not built on the expectation of perfection, but on genuine passion to participate and contribute to our collective endeavour. We welcome those who possess curiosity, integrity, intellectual openness, and a willingness to develop alongside us. Together, we will navigate the rest.”
The programme extends its invitation not only to those from Liepāja, South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities, but to anyone whose spirit calls them to participate, including international volunteers, provided applicants have reached their 13th birthday.
All participants receive comprehensive training, volunteer uniforms, handbook and reference materials to ensure they feel assured and competent in their roles. The assignment of duties shall reflect each volunteer's distinctive capabilities, interests, and experience, enabling individuals to identify responsibilities most suited to their circumstances and availability.
Those wishing to join Liepāja 2027 volunteer team may submit their applications between 10 and 27 February 2026, through the online application on the Liepāja City Municipality e-services platform, where they can select their preferred way of involvement: https://epakalpojumi.liepaja.lv/lv/projects/preview/SitHUE5DQjBqSktCek5xcGx5Y3Nidz09/
