The European Committee of the Regions (CoR), the EU's political assembly created by the Treaty of Maastricht representing over one million locally and regionally elected politicians, will welcome the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to its plenary session on 1 December 2021 from 4 pm to 4.45 pm for a debate on the renewal of democracy and European values.

At a time when Europeans are looking for answers to economic, social, environmental and political challenges, and on the eve of the start of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2022, President Macron's participation is a strong signal to all locally and regionally elected representatives in France and Europe.

The main objective of the debate is to discuss the partnership and trust between the European Union and its citizens, which are based on European common values and defence of democracy. Regional and local elected representatives play a particularly important role in this respect, and contribute to breathing new life into the European project.
