RIGA, Sept 30 (LETA) - Latvia's seaside resort city Jurmala will start charging the entrance toll on motor vehicles year-round from April 1, and its size will increase to EUR 3, the city council decided. 

At present, the toll Jurmala charges on vehicles entering the city is EUR 2, so the price increase will be 50 percent. 

The local authority said that the resort city is changing the regulation in order to reduce the intensity of transit traffic through Jurmala and encourage people to use more environmentally friendly modes of transport. 

Entering Jurmala will still be free of charge for local residents and people with properties in the city's territory. The price of long-term passes will also remain unchanged - at EUR 10 for a seven-day pass, EUR 31 for a monthly pass and EUR 55 for three-months pass. 

A pass for a year will cost EUR 180, or EUR 0.49 per day, a pass for half a year will cost EUR 107 and for 270 days - EUR 150. 

This year, the regulation still remains unchanged, which means that from October 1 to April 1 motor vehicles can enter Jurmala without paying the toll.
