Drone that arrived from Belarus on Thursday either left Latvian airspace or crashed in an unknown location - NBS
RIGA, May 22 (LETA) - The drone that flew into Latgale from Belarus on Thursday either left Latvian airspace or crashed in an unknown location, the National Armed Forces (NBS) told LETA.
Technical equipment failed to record either the object’s departure from Latvian airspace or its crash or landing. In this situation, one can only assume that one of these scenarios has occurred, the NBS stated.
The NBS is not currently conducting a ground search for the drone. However, if residents find any suspicious objects, the NBS urges them to call 112 and not to touch the objects.
As reported, on Thursday, a drone was last detected in Latvian airspace using technical means in the Kraslava Municipality, and its trail has since disappeared in that region. NATO fighter jets activated that day were unable to visually identify the drone.
Although residents initially received cell phone alerts, the National Armed Forces decided during the day not to continue issuing warnings about a potential airspace threat in these districts of Latgale.
