41% of people in Latvia have seen their income rise this year - survey

Riga, Dec 22 (LETA) - In Latvia, 41 percent of the population have seen their income increase this year, while 18 percent - decrease, representatives of Luminor Bank informed LETA, referring to a survey.

The survey data show that 27 percent of the population have increased their income by up to 10 percent, while 7 percent have increased their income by 10-15 percent, and another 7 percent have increased their income by over 15 percent.

This year, the income growth has most often affected younger people, i.e. people aged 18-29, as well as people living in Vidzeme, closely followed by Riga.

Luminor Bank explained this by the fact that the Vidzeme region is rapidly developing its economic core - Valmiera, Smiltene and Cesis. The Riga region, in turn, is growing its services exports, ensuring it the first place in the regional export race in the last two years - 2023 and 2024.

The bank mentioned that moderate growth is observed mainly in small towns, while small income growth is most often observed in rural areas.

Income growth has been most pronounced this year in households with a higher income level - above EUR 1,501, while modest growth has been most common in households with a monthly income of between EUR 1,001 and EUR 1,500.

In the survey, 53 percent of the population indicated that their income has remained the same or decreased over the year. Among them, 35 percent of the population has seen their income remain the same this year, while 18 percent has seen it decrease. Of these, 8 percent indicate a significant decrease of more than 15 percent. Income has fallen most often for people aged 30-39, and this trend is particularly characteristic for people living in Latgale and Zemgale.

The Luminor Bank survey was conducted in November 2025 in cooperation with the research agency Norstat Latvija, with a total of 1,004 respondents in Latvia aged 18 to 74.
