Ledins elected Mayor of Jurmala
Riga, Nov 24 (LETA) - On Monday, the current Vice Mayor of Jurmala, Janis Ledins (Latvia's Green Party), was elected the Mayor of Jurmala.
He represents the list of the incumbent mayor Gatis Truksnis (Latvia's Green Party). Ledins was elected by nine votes out of 15.
Andris Cuda (National Alliance), an opposition member, was also nominated.
As reported, Truksnis did not receive security clearance for work with state secrets, so he resigned.
He explained that he had received a notification from the State Security Service (VDD) of a decision "denying me access to objects of state secrecy and denying me a special permit authorizing me to use classified information".
Truksnis resigned as the mayor "to avoid any shadow of doubt about the decision-making" in the local council. At the same time, he stressed that his resignation did not imply acceptance of the VDD decision.
Truksnis returned to mayor's office after the 2025 municipal elections with nine votes out of 15.
He continues to work as a member of the city council.
