RIGA, Nov 5 (LETA) - By November 15, heads of all local and regional councils will have Covid-19 certificates, said Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (For Development/For) in a press conference today.

Thus, all heads of local and regional governments will be able to remain in their posts.

According to the information provided by local councils, also 92 percent of local lawmakers will be vaccinated, have started the vaccination course or have recovered from Covid-19.

At present there are unvaccinated lawmakers in 20 local councils - in Liepaja, Dienvidkurzeme municipality, Ventspils municipality, Jelgava, Marupe and Kekava municipalities, Ropazi, Sigulda, Limbazi, Cesis, Valka, Gulbene, Aluksne and Balvi municipalities, Varaklani, Rezekne and Livani municipalities, Rezekne and Daugavpils.

In total, there are 758 lawmakers in local councils, of which 696 are vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19, 39 have started vaccination, 19 lawmakers are not vaccinated, and there is no information about four lawmakers.

Pless said that heads of local and regional councils are responsible for ensuring the work of the council. Those lawmakers who do not have a Covid-19 certificate by November 15, will not be able to participate in the council's work also remotely.

As reported, Covid-19 vaccination has been set mandatory for all public sector employees as of November 15.
