Former director of National Theatre elected mayor of Sigulda Municipality
RIGA, June 27 (LETA) - Janis Vimba, a former director of the Latvian National Theatre, was on Friday elected mayor of Sigulda Municipality.
In recent years, Vimba worked as director of the Sigulda Municipal Culture and Tourism Center and lectured at the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technology.
Vimba takes over from former Sigulda mayor Linards Kumskis from the joint list of the Latvian Farmers' Union and the Latvian Green Party.
Vimba was elected Sigula mayor by 11 votes to eight and one abstention.
Rival candidate Liga Sausina, elected from the joint list of the National Alliance, Latvian Association of Regions, Vidzeme Party and the New Conservative Party, received six votes, while 13 councilors voted against her.
