Strong winds in Riga damage building facades, road signs and traffic lights
RIGA, Dec 28 (LETA) - Due to strong winds in Riga, the municipality has received two calls regarding torn insulation of building facades, several damaged road signs, traffic lights and other damages, Riga municipality spokesman Martins Vilemsons told LETA.
He said that by 8 am on Sunday, the Riga municipality has received several calls related to the strong wind, including 11 related to trees knocked down by the wind, ten related to damaged road signs, six related to traffic lights, five related to power lines, and three related to fences.
Two houses had their facade insulation torn off, and there were calls for damage to a lamppost, billboard, window and others.
Vilemsons said that in Riga the calls varied, but overall they were "not too considerable". The Riga municipality responded promptly to the calls, for example by putting up road signs and cordoning off the damaged areas, while, for example, building owners will have to repair the facade insulation.
