RIGA, Sept 15 (LETA) - Sunly Infra head Toms Naburgs has become the head of the Latvian Wind Energy Association (LWEA), LETA learned from the organization.

The council of the association decided to change the management model and the head of the association will be elected from the council members for a period of two years.

"Development of wind energey sector in Latvia has been lagging behind other Baltic states and the EU in general. This is due to a number of factors, including responsibility of local governments, therefore one of our main tasks is to achieve that projects important for the national energy and climate goals are being implemented and not blocked on the level of local governments," said Naburgs.

He said that it is important to work on the regulations and relations among all players in the field - wind energy development, local governments and local residents.

LWEA is the voice of the wind industry in Latvia since 1998, actively promoting wind power as the answer to today’s energy challenges, providing substantial environmental and economic benefits. LWEA works towards raising public awareness and understanding of renewable energy sources, in particular wind energy, as well as works in close cooperation with the governmental institutions towards establishing an enabling and inclusive regulatory framework for renewable energy.
