Harmony stays in power in Rezekne with improved result in local elections
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - Ruling Harmony party won local elections in Latvia's eastern city of Rezekne on Saturday with mayor Aleksandrs Bartasevics as its lead candidate, the Central Election Commission informed.
Harmony received 63.19 percent of votes in the elections, which is slightly more than in the previous elections when the party was supported by 59.03 percent of voters.
The alliance of Latgale Party, the National Alliance, Latvia's Green Party, New Unity and the Latvian Association of Regions was second with a significantly weaker result - 19.27 percent of votes.
The New Conservative Party placed third with 9.12 percent of votes and the Progressives came fourth with 5.62 percent.
Voter turnout in Rezekne was 31.22 percent in this year's local elections.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
