Nearly 1,000 Ukrainian refugees registered in Liepaja and Dienvidkurzeme municipality
RIGA, April 11 (LETA) - On April 4-10, Liepaja and Dienvidkurzeme municipality registered 132 new refugees from Ukraine, while the total number of refugees registered in the area is 994, LETA learned from the local council.
Of the refugees, 803 will stay in Liepaja and 174 in Dienvidkurzeme municipality.
Charity organization Tabitas Sirds last week admitted 170 people, providing them with clothing, hygiene products, bed linen, other household necessities and furniture.
The information center for refugees provided consultations - in total 319 consultation by phone and 168 in-person consultations in March.
Last week, 24 children were enrolled in schools in Liepaja - ten in preschools and 14 in general education schools. In total, there are 63 Ukrainian children in Liepaja schools, and 42 in preschools.
Two Ukrainian teachers work in Liedaga Secondary School.
In agreement with the local government, 27 people have been accommodated in Europa City Amrita Hotel and 32 people in Hotel Kolumbs.
Liepaja social service last week paid benefits for a total sum of EUR 35,332, including EUR 9,739 in guaranteed minimum income benefit, EUR 23,800 in crisis benefits. In total, the social service has already oaid EUR 116,332 in benefits to Ukrainian refugees.
