Additional Covid-19 beds to be set-up at Jelgava and Jekabpils hospitals
RIGA, Sept 9 (LETA) - As the number of patients hospitalized with Covid-19 continues to increase, wards will also be opened in Jelgava and Jekabpils hospitals for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, the State Operational Medical Commission has decided.
The Ministry of Health told LETA that the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients in the last seven days has remained high - an average of 21 new hospitalized patients every day. On September 8, 206 Covid-19 patients were treated in hospitals, 30 of whom had severe symptoms of the virus. The information provided by hospitals shows that, in contrast to the beginning of the year, the number of patients with severe symptoms and in need of oxygen therapy has increased.
The ward for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in Jelgava Hospital will be open from today. Starting from Saturday, September 11, Covid-19 patients will also be admitted to Jekabpils Hospital.
