Ventspils city council earmarks EUR 100,000 or support measures for Ukrainian war refugees
RIGA, March 7 (LETA) - Ventspils city council at an extraordinary meeting decided to allocate EUR 100,000 for support measures for Ukrainian war refugees, LETA learned from the council.
Ventspils city council has considered possibilities to provide social assistance to refugees from Ukraine who have arrived in Ventspils.
Strongly condemning the warfare in Ukraine unleashed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ventspils municipality has resolved to provide support to the refugees from Ukraine.
Ventspils social service will provide social assistance, the education board will solve issues related with education of children. The local authority institutions will also organize accommodation and catering.
Medical assistance will be provided by Ziemelkurzeme Regional Hospital and Ventspils Clinic in cooperation with state institutions.
The city council will allocate premises to Ventspils Ukrainian culture NGO Kobzar and other NGOs for collecting donations for Ukraine.
As reported, on February 24, Russia unleashed a war in Ukraine, targeting not only military, but also residential areas, Belarusian army entered the territory of Ukraine on March 1, forcing more than a million civilians to flee their home and country. Several thousands have already arrived in Latvia.
