Two elementary schools to be closed in Riga next school year
RIGA, Feb 11 (LETA) - Two elementary schools will be closed and several other educational institutions reorganized in Riga in the next school year, according to a draft decree that is yet to be reviewed by Riga City Council.
The changes are meant to ensure efficient utilization of resources and are part of measures to improve the network of educational institutions in Riga.
In the next school year, Riga Ciekurkalns Elementary School will be liquidated by merging it with Riga High School No. 45.
Likewise, Riga Elementary School No. 46 will be liquidated and merged with Riga High School No. 31.
In 2026, Riga High School No. 31 will be merged with Riga Rinuzi High School and Riga Elementary School No. 74 with Riga High School No. 64.
Several preschools will also be affected. The new school year will see the closure of Riga Preschool No. 66 and its merger with the Preschool No. 49.
At the same time, a new kindergarten will open at 15 Balta Street.
By August 31, Krisjanis Kundzins Martial Arts School will be merged with Riga sports school Ridzene.
