Truksnis back as Jurmala mayor
RIGA, June 26 (LETA) - Former Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis (Latvian Green Party) was elected chairman of Jurmala City Council on Thursday.
The National Alliance had nominated Andris Cuda for the mayor's post.
Addressing councilors before the vote, Truksnis said he hoped that election campaigns were over and that real work would begin at Jurmala City Council, adding that the municipality must work for the good of Jurmala residents.
As reported, the Green Party has won the municipal elections in Jurmala, according to data published by the Central Election Commission (CVK).
Counting the votes in all 18 polling stations in Jurmala, Latvia's Green Party received 35.31 percent of the votes and six of the 15 seats in the city council. It is followed by the National Alliance with 22.4 percent of the votes and four council seats.
In third place is the list of the Union of Greens and Farmers with 12.26 percent of the votes and two seats on the council.
This is followed by Harmony with 7.77 percent, Progressives with 7.34 percent and Latvia First with 6.08 percent, each winning one seat.
According to the CVK data, 49.46 percent of eligible voters in Jurmala took part in these municipal elections.
