RIGA, May 12 (LETA) - As many as 36 percent of education workers and technical staff of education institutions in Riga have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, according to the data from the Independent Education Organization.

Teachers are receiving vaccines individually or using the collective vaccination opportunities.

The organization said that about 38 percent of teachers and 25 percent of technical staff at schools and about 26.3 percent of teachers and 20 percent of technical staff at pre-schools have been vaccinated.

There is a similar situation in Liepaja, where about 35 percent of employees working in education have been vaccinated, while in Limbazi this share is 62 percent.

The organization said that a large number of municipalities do not have data about vaccination in respect to education workers.

The organization's board chairwoman Zane Ozola said that if at least 70 percent of the teachers and the whole society are not vaccinated by September, return to schools in September is under threat.

"We may form individual 'bubbles' in every school, but we should be aware of our relatives, friends and neighbors. This all may delay return to schools,' she said.
