Several Covid-19 cases reported at Marsneni nursing home
RIGA, Jan 13 (LETA) - Marsneni, a nursing home in the Priekuli region which saw a Covid-19 outbreak already in May has again reported several coronavirus cases, the nursing home's head Evija Jekabsone infomed LETA.
Jekabsone was unable to specify the number of cases discovered at the Marsneni nursing home as test results still keep coming in. Meanwhile, data released from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) shows that 32 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the Priekuli region in the past 24 hours.
Jekabsone said that the first testing of the nursing home's staff this year took place on January 4 and that these tests were all negative. Further testing of clients and employees on January 11 revealed infections both among employees and clients.
The head of the nursing home said that she had been doing all she could to prevent employees and clients from contracting the disease, but the employees each have their own families and they use public transport, which leads to exposure to the virus.
"We are strictly following the algorithm, but the result is what it is," Jekabsone said.
As reported, nearly 50 residents of the Marsneni nursing home fell ill with Covid-19 in May 2020 in what became one of the first coronavirus outbreaks at Latvia's nursing homes.
