RIGA, May 24 (LETA) - In light of frequent cell broadcast alerts regarding a potential threat in the airspace, several educational institutions in Rezekne have decided to conduct classes remotely or partially remotely from May 25 to May 31, LETA learned from the municipality.

At Rezekne Secondary School No. 2, classes for students in grades 4-8 and 10-11 will be conducted remotely.

At Rezekne Primary School No. 3, students in grades 3-9 will study partially remotely. In-person sessions will be held for standardized tests, combined assignments, extracurricular activities, and consultations.

At Rezekne State Polish Gymnasium, learning for students in grades 5-12 will be organized partially remotely. Centralized exams, combined assignments, extracurricular activities, and consultations will take place in person.

The remaining schools have decided to continue the educational process as usual.

As reported, residents in Latvia's eastern region of Latgale have received similar cell broadcast notifications over the past few months, most likely related to drones approaching or entering Latvian airspace amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Such drones have also exploded on Latvian territory on several occasions, including on May 7 at an oil storage facility in Rezekne.

So far, no people have been injured in such incidents, but a recent drone crash in Rezekne led to the sacking of Defense Minister Andris Spruds (Progressives) and the resignation of Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity).
