National guards, border guards, firefighters and Emergency Medical Service staff to be able to use public transport in Riga free of charge
Riga, Dec 17 (LETA) - Riga public transport will also be free of charge for national guards, border guards, firefighters and emergency medical personnel, the Riga City Council's press service informed LETA.
In order to introduce these travel discounts, Riga Mayor Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity) has proposed changes to the municipality's binding regulations.
The mayor believes that this would show respect to the representatives of these professions and would create a greater sense of security for the citizens when travelling on public transport together with uniformed representatives of various services.
The mayor hopes that this will both improve security in the city and show respect for the professions.
The proposal was also endorsed today by the other coalition partners of the Riga City Council and will be prepared for consideration at the Council meeting.
