    Police identify person behind fake images of drone that allegedly crashed in Smiltene

    RIGA, May 20 (LETA) - The State Police has identified a person in a criminal case regarding fake photos of a drone that allegedly crashed in Smiltene Municipality, which were deliberately circulated on social media.

    The State Police told LETA that the information about the drone crash was not true, so yesterday criminal proceedings were initiated under the article on hooliganism of the Criminal Code.

    The person has been granted the status of a person against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated. An explanation has been accepted from the person concerned.

    The police also urge people to critically assess the information available on the internet and to trust only official sources of information, such as websites of public authorities and official social media accounts.
