Sigulda municipal council to voice no confidence in Mayor Vimba
Riga, Nov 12 (LETA) - Eleven members of the Sigulda municipal council demand the dismissal of Mayor Janis Vimba (Sigulda Regional Party), Liga Sausina (National Alliance), a council member and director of the Sigulda State Gymnasium, confirmed to LETA.
The council has 19 lawmaker, which means that there are enough votes to dismiss the mayor.
The motion of no confidence and dismissal of Vimba from the post of the Council President was signed by seven members of the joint list of the National Alliance, the Latvian Association of Regions, the Vidzeme Party and the New Conservative Party - Sausina, Ivo Alksnis, Martins Ziverts, Ance Kaimina, Ivo Bernats, Maija Puce and Janis Strautmanis, as well as four members of the joint list of the Latvian Farmers' Union and the Green Party of Latvia - Linards Kumskis, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Solvita Strausa, Eva Vilķina and Zane Berdinska.
Sausina told LETA that the motion of no confidence in Vimba and his dismissal from the post of the council chairman was a collegial decision.
Sausina cited the main reason for the suspension as the fact that the deputies were increasingly frustrated by the lack of planned projects, such as street repairs, the slow pace of processes in general and the neglect of responding to citizens' requests.
An extraordinary meeting of the Sigulda municipal council has been called for tomorrow, November 13, to decide on the dismissal of the council chairman.
