RIGA, July 8 (LETA) - Today, the Riga City Council approved the extension of the validity period of the joint Riga public transportation and train ticket until the end of the year, as well as the expansion of the ticket's validity area.

The joint ticket system is planned to be expanded from the current zone A to all five Vivi train zones: A, B, C, D, and E. This means that a significantly wider range of passengers will be able to take advantage of the joint ticket in the future, facilitating easier transfers between trains and Riga's public transportation system.

As spokespeople for the Riga City Council told LETA, the amendments to the pilot project will help achieve the goal set out in Riga's development plan to promote cooperation in the field of mobility between Riga and the surrounding region, including the development of a joint public transit ticketing system.

The joint ticket also allows residents to significantly reduce their total travel costs by using both trains and Riga's public transportation. For example, a trip in zone A will save EUR 1.

The joint ticket combines one Vivi train ride on a selected route with a 90-minute ticket for travel on Rigas Satiksme buses, trolleybuses, and trams.

The price of the zone A ticket will remain unchanged at EUR 2. However, as the ticket's validity is extended to other zones, its price will range from EUR 2.80 to EUR 4.30.

On certain diesel train routes, depending on the route and train type, an additional surcharge will apply in accordance with the fare set by rail passenger carrier Vivi.

The changes are scheduled to take effect on July 24.

The joint ticket will be available for purchase only digitally, on the Vivi website and via the Vivi Latvija mobile app. The ticket is not available at railway ticket offices or from conductors.

The joint ticket pilot project was launched in July 2025. Last year, more than 15,000 passengers used the ticket, while in the first half of 2026, the number of joint ticket users has already exceeded 10,000, confirming growing interest in this public transportation solution.
