Riga, June 8 (LETA) - The party of the incumbent mayor Janis Baiks, For Valmiera and Vidzeme, has won an overwhelming majority of votes in the municipal elections in Valmiera municipality or 13 out of 19 seats, according to preliminary data of the Central Election Commission.

As many as 64.31 percent of the municipality's eligible population voted for Valmiera and Vidzeme party in these municipal elections. The party will now have one more seat than at present.

Also, 15.75 percent of voters in Valmiera municipality voted for the National Alliance, giving the party three seats. Two seats were won by the Union of Greens and Farmers with 8.97 percent of support.

The Latvian Association of Regions won 5.13 percent of the votes and one seat at the council.

The lists of the four other parties have not passed the 5 percent threshold.

In Valmiera 45.35 percent of the eligible population of the municipality voted.
