Young people from Baltic states, Finland gather in Tallinn to discuss democracy
TALLINN, Sept 26 (LETA--BNS) - A regional summer school of the European Parliament Ambassador School Program (EPAS) is taking place in Tallinn on Thursday and Friday, where secondary school students and teachers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland discuss the nature and meaning of parliamentary democracy.
The summer school brings together 130 students and teachers. The opening session took place at the Artis cinema on Thursday morning. The participants were then divided into four working groups to discuss different aspects of parliamentary democracy.
The event will conclude with a seminar on the impact of the European elections, on volunteering and youth involvement.
Launched in 2016, the EPAS program aims to increase students' awareness of European parliamentary democracy, the role of the European Parliament and European values. The EPAS program has since expanded to all European Union countries, and all 16 to 19-year-old students from Estonian upper secondary schools and vocational schools are welcome to join it.
The summer school is organized by the European Parliament office in Estonia in cooperation with the European Parliament offices in Finland, Latvia and Lithuania.
