    US ambassador expresses interest in possible cooperation in Jurmala project for children with special needs

    RIGA, Jan 15 (LETA) - US Ambassador to Latvia Christopher Robinson has expressed interest in possible cooperation in Jurmala Municipality's project for children with special needs, LETA was informed at the seaside city's municipality.

    Robinson, who was accredited US Ambassador to Latvia in 2023, paid a working visit to Jurmala on Wednesday. The ambassador met with Jurmala Mayor Rita Sproge (Greens/Farmers).

    The purpose of the visit was to discuss the functions of Jurmala Municipality, current and future challenges, and the support provided by the State in meeting the municipality's objectives.

    The ambassador was also interested in issues related to Jurmala's development and budget priorities, Jurmala's contribution to the Local Government Equalization Fund, planned investments in infrastructure development projects, civil protection and security.

    At the end of the meeting, the ambassador expressed his interest in possible cooperation in the municipality's project for children with special needs. This educational infrastructure development project envisages transferring the functions of the current Vaivari Primary School to the newly established Ludis Berzins Primary School in Dubulti where modern and up-to-date facilities will be provided for a full-fledged learning process for children with special needs. The project is planned to be implemented by 2028.
