Deputy chairwoman of Sigulda municipal council has resigned
Riga, Dec 16 (LETA) - Ina Stupele (New Unity), the deputy chairperson of Sigulda municipal council for business development, has resigned from her post after the mayor was replaced, the municipality informed LETA.
Janis Vimba (Sigulda Municipal Party) was ousted as mayor of Sigulda this autumn and his replacement, Linards Kumskis (Latvia's Green Party), was elected as the council's chairman last week.
Ance Kaimina from the list of the National Alliance, the Latvian Association of Regions, the Vidzeme Party and the New Conservative Party was elected Deputy Chairperson, and she announced that the council chairperson will have only one deputy from now on.
Before the election of a new chairman of Sigulda municipal council, Stupele, who was acting as the chairperson at the time, called on all members to take responsibility for the vote to make sure that they had chosen the best candidate for Sigulda. She felt that "this would not be a story of a new start or a cohesive team" and therefore did not support Kumskis' candidacy for the post.
Stupele told LETA that it was important for her to work in a professional team led by a strong leader. "This is not the case at the moment, as my vote against Kumskis last week showed," Stupele said.
