Construction activity in Riga in 2025 at highest level in recent years - municipality
RIGA, April 27 (LETA) - In 2025, construction activity in Riga reached its highest level in recent years, the press service of Riga City Council informed LETA.
According to data from the Construction Information System, 813 buildings were put into operation in Riga last year and the total cost of construction works carried out in them was around EUR 441.6 million.
The number of buildings put into operation has gradually increased in recent years. While 468 buildings were put into operation in 2022, in 2025 the number of newly completed construction projects rose to 813.
Edgars Bergholcs (National Alliance), Chairman of the Riga City Council City Development Committee, points out that these data show the direction of Riga's development - new areas are being developed at an increasing pace alongside the redevelopment of existing buildings. "Our objective is to ensure a predictable, transparent and comprehensible construction process for businesses, while maintaining high quality requirements for urban development," said Bergholcs.
At the same time, demolitions increased as well, with 89 old buildings torn down in 2025, the highest number in four years. This trend is indicative of active urban transformation, where outdated buildings are increasingly being replaced by projects that meet modern requirements, according to representatives of the municipality.
Last year, total investment in these projects amounted to EUR 441.6 million, of which more than half, or 51.4 percent, was invested in the construction of new buildings.
In 2025, 366 new buildings were built in Riga at a total cost of EUR 226.9 million, 358 buildings were renovated, restored, or rebuilt at a cost of EUR 90.7 million, while 89 buildings were demolished at a cost of EUR 124 million.
According to data from the Construction Information System, between 2022 and 2025, a total of 2,513 buildings were put into operation in the administrative territory of Riga, including 1,113 new buildings, and 1,158 reconstructed, renovated, or restored buildings, while 242 buildings were demolished.
