Nine municipalities receive EU funding to improve school infrastructure

Riga, March 10 (LETA) - The government on Tuesday decided to distribute funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to nine municipalities to improve the infrastructure of general education institutions.

The second pre-selection of project applicants will result in the allocation of funding to the municipalities of Dobele, Ludza, Ogre, Preili, Ropazi, Saldus, Tukums, Valmiera and Rezekne. The total planned ERDF funding for these municipalities is more than EUR 8.5 million.

Preili municipality has been allocated an additional EUR 247,440 to develop or improve inclusive education infrastructure in general education institutions.

The municipalities of Augsdaugava, Kuldiga and Limbazi were not included in the project because some of their educational institutions did not meet the criteria.

According to the rules, ERDF funding is initially allocated for the establishment or improvement of inclusive education infrastructure, with the remaining amount distributed among municipalities in proportion to the number of pupils in grades 1-12 in the municipalities' educational institutions.
