    Riga and Riga region accounted for 65.8% of Latvia's GDP in 2023

    RIGA, Dec 30 (LETA) - Riga and the Riga region together accounted for 65.8 percent of Latvia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023, LETA was told at the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

    According to the CSB, Latvia's GDP in current prices in 2023 was EUR 39.564 billion, of which 65.8 percent, or EUR 26.049 billion, was attributable to Riga and the Riga region.

    Kurzeme followed with 10.2 percent (EUR 4.0 billion), Vidzeme with 9 percent (EUR 3.5 billion), Zemgale with 7.8 percent (EUR 3.1 billion), and Latgale with 7.1 percent (EUR 2.8 billion).

    The highest GDP per capita was recorded in the Riga region - EUR 30,440, while the lowest GDP per capita was in the Latgale region - EUR 11,536, which means that productivity in the Riga region was 2.6 times higher than in the Latgale region in 2023.

    In Kurzeme, GDP per capita was EUR 14,452, followed by Zemgale with EUR 13,626, and Vidzeme with EUR 12,762.

    Compared to 2022, GDP grew at the fastest rate in the Riga region (11.7 percent) in 2023. GDP growth was recorded in all regions of Latvia - 8.4 percent in Kurzeme, 5.8 percent in Vidzeme, 5.2 percent in Latgale and 2.7 percent in Zemgale.

    Among state cities, the largest GDP per capita in 2023 - EUR 34,400 - was recorded in the capital, Riga. It was followed by Valmiera with EUR 28,000, Liepaja with EUR 17,800, Rezekne and Ventspils with EUR 17,400, Jelgava with EUR 16,700, Jekabpils with EUR 15,200, Daugavpils with EUR 14,800, Jurmala with EUR 11,500, and Ogre with EUR 10,300 per capita.

    In 2023, the highest GDP per capita was recorded in Marupe municipality (EUR 45,500), followed by Ropazi municipality (EUR 26,900) and Kekava municipality (EUR 22,100). The top ten municipalities also included Livani, Valmiera, Olaine, Smiltene, Adazi, Saldus, and Dobele.
