Transport Ministry might build 16-23 access points to optical network in order to ensure internet in regions
RIGA, Feb 17 (LETA) - The Transport Ministry might build 16-23 access points to optical network that would ensure internet in regions, LETA learned from the ministry.
As many as 16 out of 40 municipalities addressed have submitted proposals on internet access points that meet the requirements of the state support program under the European Regional Fund's 2017-2020 planning period - they are in the so-called white territories where mobile operators have showed no interest in building the network and provision of services.
At the same time, several municipalities have submitted several proposals on building additional access points, and they will be assessed in cooperation with the Education and Science Ministry.
As reported, Education and Science Minister Ilga Suplinska (New Conservative Party) informed earlier that in relation to remote learning, municipalities by February 15 had to submit to the Transport Ministry proposals on access points in order to ensure the necessary internet capacities.
The ministry also has signed a memorandum with cooperation partners on increasing internet capacities at schools.
