Riga, Oct 16 (LETA) - The Riga City Council will develop guidelines for an inclusive and integrated society, the council's external communications department informed LETA.

"By forming the coalition, we committed to develop Riga as a capital city where the Latvian identity is respected and nurtured, while ensuring an integrated and safe society," said Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs (Progressives).

He sees these guidelines as a valuable step for the future, so that the municipality's institutions and partners can work together to develop policies that strengthen people's sense of belonging to the city and mutual respect.

The aim of the guidelines is to establish a medium-term policy planning document that will contribute to a coherent and targeted policy of social inclusion and integration in the municipality.

It will create the conditions for active and diverse belonging to the city, as well as participation and interaction in different spheres of life, in order to develop their social, cultural and civic resources, as well as to build relationships based on mutual understanding and respect and to improve their quality of life in a modern and inclusive urban environment.

In order to develop the guidelines, it is planned to carry out a study on the current situation, gathering the municipality's experience in the field of integration, inclusion, the views of the citizens of Riga on linguistic diversity in the city.

It is planned to identify priority objectives and deliverables, as well as tasks and measures to achieve the objectives, and to define the performance indicators, the deadline for implementation, and the responsible and involved institutions.
