Mutual cooperation among local governments might promote people's trust - Kaminskis

RIGA, Sept 16 (LETA) - Mutual cooperation among local governments might promote people's trust, said Gints Kaminskis, the chairman of the Latvian Association of Local Governments (LPS) at a conference dedicated to the project on promoting cooperation among local governments and strengthening good governance on Thursday.

"In order to promote this trust, mutual cooperation among local governmetns, cooperation with international partners are important. In this way we will promote not only trust in local governmets, but also in the Cabinet of Ministers, the Saeima and other institutions," Kaminskis said.

Jelgava Mayor and a represetnative of the Latvian Association of Large Cities, Andris Ravins (Greens/Farmers) also underscored the significance of public trust. Cooperation is necessary on all levels - among local governments, with the government and the parliament.

Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (For Development/For) called on local governments to cooperation based on the administrative territorial report, thus, improving the quality of services provided to local residents.

LPS will implement its project in cooperation with Norway.

"The territorial reform is current both in Latvia and in Norway, as a result, the number of local governments has been reduced, making them stronger and able to provide high-quality services to their residents," said a represetnatives from the Norwegian embassy in Riga.
