Over 400 people with negative Covid-19 tests to attend religious festival in Aglona

RIGA, Aug 11 (LETA) - To date, 432 people have booked Covid-19 tests ahead of the festival of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary which they plan to attend in Aglona this weekend, Inga Jurjevica, a representative of Aglona Basilica, told LETA.

She said that 245 pilgrims have registered to attend church services on Saturday and 187 on Sunday.

Persons with valid Covid-19 certificates confirming vaccination against or recovery from the coronavirus will not be counted as they will be able to attend the annual religious festival without limitations.

According to Jurjevica, pilgrims are expected to arrive for this year's Assumption celebrations from Riga, Varaklani, Jurmala, Sigulda, Kraslava, Daugavpils and Cesis.

The celebrations of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary are starting in Aglona on Wednesday with a midday mass at the basilica's garden altar. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 19:00. Wednesday's services in Aglona are dedicated to the sick.
