Most of new Covid-19 cases were registered in Riga
RIGA, Dec 11 (LETA) - Of the 680 new Covid-19 cases registered in the past 24 hours, more than 40 percent were registered in Riga, while there was also a steep rise in Daugavpils and Jelgava, according to the data from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Riga reported 266 new Covid-19 cases, which increased the capital city's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3,192.
The latest 87 cases in Daugavpils brings the 14-day cumulative number in Latvia's second largest city to 1,108. In Jelgava, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases rose to 412, with 22 cases registered in the past 24 hours. Riga, Daugavpils and Jelgava reported also the largest number of Covid-19 cases.
Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has reached 446.8.
Latvia confirmed 680 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, while another 15 patients died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
This is the second highest Covid-19 death toll recorded in Latvia in 24 hours. One of the latest Covid-19 victims was aged between 45 and 50, four between 55 and 65, four between 65 and 75, five between 75 and 85 and one between 90 and 95 years. Latvia's total Covid-19 death toll grew to 319.
Of the 10,356 Covid-19 tests carried out in Latvia in the past 24 hours, 6.6 percent came back positive. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.
Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload has reached 24,386. LETA's estimates suggest that Latvia has registered 8,578 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days.
