Riga's main Christmas trees are 35 years old and up to 21 meters tall
RIGA, Nov 20 (LETA) - Riga's main Christmas trees are 35 years old and up to 21 meters tall, the Riga City Council's Communications Department informed LETA.
Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs (Progressives) chose the Christmas trees from the municipal forest management company Rigas Mezi Tireli forestry area.
The selected trees will decorate Dome Square and the Town Hall Square.
According to the municipality, the tree's wreaths are beautiful, thick and dark green, which means that the trees grew in fertile and moist soil.
The trees will be brought to the city and decorated in the near future, and the tree lighting event is expected to take place on November 29.
In total, around 20 Christmas trees from Rigas Mezi will decorate the capital this year. They will be placed at venues for the main festive events in Riga and its neighborhoods, as well as at educational and cultural institutions.
Each year, fewer and fewer trees are brought to Riga, as this spring the municipality's Department of Housing and Environment, in cooperation with Rigas Mezi and neighborhood associations, planted seven trees that will now be decorated where they grow for Christmas. The new festive decorations have been planted in Ilguciems, Tornakalns, Bisumuiza, Rumbula, Jugla and Jaunciems, as well as in Nordeku Park.
