RIGA, Jan 12 (LETA) - The registered unemployment rate in Latvia at the end of last year was 5 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points higher than a month earlier, but 0.3 percentage points lower than a year ago, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).

At the end of December 2025, a total of 43,672 people were registered as unemployed with the NVA, which is 2,001 more than a month earlier, when 46,553 unemployed people were registered with the agency.

The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of December 2025 was still in the Riga region - 3.7 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points more than month earlier, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 10.1 percent, up 0.3 percentage points from the end of November 2025.

In Kurzeme, the registered unemployment rose 0.5 percentage points to 5.5 percent of the economically active population, the registered unemployment rate in Zemgale increased 0.4 percentage points to 4.9 percent, and in Vidzeme the registered unemployment rate rose 0.3 percentage points and was 4.6 percent.

At the end of 2024, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.3 percent of the economically active population.
