RIGA, Feb 17 (LETA) - Austrumlatvijas Koncertzale (East Latvia Concert Hall), the operator of the Gors concert hall in Rezekne, closed 2025 with a profit of EUR 88,600, defying pessimistic audit forecasts, LETA was told at the company.

Gors, which last year hosted 130 stage performances and received 130,000 visitors, achieved its best performance results in five years in 2025. Austrumlatvijas Koncertzale showed a profit of EUR 88,600 for 2025 in contrast to the EUR 70,000-80,000 loss projected by the auditors.

"It should be borne in mind that cultural institutions like Gors are highly seasonal, and mid-year profits are difficult to predict. This was also pointed out by the company to the auditors hired by the Rezekne City Council, who initially forecast a loss of EUR 70,000-80,000 for the concert hall," said the concert hall's CEO Ilona Rupaine.

The concert hall's administration has noticed that the events surrounding the Gors concert hall last year encouraged people to attend events more actively, as well as to use other services provided at the concert hall - such as visiting the cinema and the restaurant - thus expressing their support.

As reported, in light of the so far unsuccessful discussions with the Rezekne local authority, the government has tasked the Ministries of Culture and Smart Administration and Regional Development with jointly drafting a law to ensure the state's involvement in the concert hall's management.

During the drafting process, it will be specified to what extent the concert hall could be co-owned by the state. The draft law is expected to be ready by the end of February.
