Local governments have prepared more than 70 applications for upgrade of boiler houses, giving up natural gas
RIGA, June 3 (LETA) - Local governments have prepared more than 70 applications for upgrading their boiler houses, giving up natural gas, Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (For Development/For) said in a press conference today.
He said that the local governments are actively getting ready for the next heating season, and this will be a significant contribution in order to reduce dependence on natural gas.
After the upgrade projects, boiler houses will mostly run on woodchip or pellets.
The minister also reminded about the ministry's support program for households in replacing heating systems running on natural gas with different energy sources.
As reported, many experts predict a significant hike in energy prices next heating season.
