    Liepaja interested in improving connectivity with Riga

    RIGA, May 26 (LETA) - Liepaja Mayor Gunars Alsins today met with Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (Conservatives) to discuss matters of mutual interest, the local authority informed LETA. 

    Discussions between the leadership of Liepaja City Council and the transport minister focused on improvements to connectivity between Riga and Liepaja, current and potential  mobility projects in the city, including construction of a bike path from Liepaja to Bernati and an overpass to Lauma neighborhood in Liepaja. 

    In Liepaja, the transport minister met also with the administration of Liepaja Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and inspected the territory of former Liepajas Metalurgs steelworks, which is being developed as a "business friendly environment, including for companies operating in the port of Liepaja", according to local officials. 

    During his regional visit, Linkaits arrived at the port of Liepaja where he inspected the construction site of an export terminal, projects for Karosta Canal and discussed other topics concerned with the port's development.
