    Greens/Farmers win local elections in Dienvidkurzeme Region

    RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - The Union of Greens and Farmers received the strongest voter support in local elections in Latvia's southwestern region of Dienvidkurzeme on Saturday, the Central Election Commission informed. 

    Greens/Farmers won 43.84 percent of the vote in the elections with Grobina mayor Aivars Priedols running as their lead candidate. 

    The National Alliance placed second with 25.73 percent of votes, the Latvian Association of Regions followed with 15.16 percent and New Unity with more than 5 percent. 

    Voter turnout in Dienvidkurzeme Region was 34.96 percent in this year's local elections. 

    As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.

    This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
