Helmanis to chair Ogre Municipality Council for third consecutive term
RIGA, June 27 (LETA) - Egils Helmanis was on Friday elected mayor of Ogre Municipality, which means that he will be chairing the Ogre Municipality Council for a third consecutive term.
Helmanis was nominated for Ogre mayor by the joint electoral list of the National Alliance, Union of Greens and Farmers and the Latvian Green Party. The Latvian Association of Region nominated councilor Rudolfs Kudla.
Helmanis was elected Ogre mayor by 14 votes to nine, while Kudla was supported by nine councilors and 14 voted against his candidacy.
As reported, this year's local elections in Ogre Municipality were won by the joint electoral list of the National Alliance, Union of Greens and Farmers and the Latvian Green Party, receiving 12 out of 23 mandates.
A joint electoral list of Latvian Association of Regions, Movement For! and the New Conservative Party, as well as New Unity and Vidzeme Party are also represented on the Ogre Municipality Council.
