    Baiks is unanimously re-elected chairman of Valmiera regional council

    Riga, June 25 (LETA) - On Wednesday, Janis Baiks ( For Valmiera and Vidzeme) was unanimously re-elected chairman of the Valmiera regional council.

    Baiks has been the chairman of Valmiera city council since 2014, but was elected chairman of the Valmiera regional council in 2021.

    All 19 lawmakers voted in favor of Baiks.

    As reported earlier, Baiks' party For Valmiera and Vidzeme won an overwhelming majority of votes in the municipal elections in Valmiera, which allowed it to win 13 of the 19 seats.

    64.31 percent of the municipality's eligible population voted for Valmiera and Vidzeme in these municipal elections.

    15.75 percent of voters in Valmiera municipality voted for the National Alliance, giving the party three seats. Two seats were won by the Union of Greens and Farmers, who received 8.97 percent of the votes. Latvian Association of Regions, is a newcomer to the council, with 5.13 percent of the votes and one lawmaker.

    In Valmiera, 45.35 percent of the eligible population voted.
