After young patient dies of Covid-19, Health Ministry changes procedure of hospitals' access to Remdesivir medication
RIGA, Dec 30 (LETA) - The Health Ministry has changed the procedure of hospitals' access to the Remdesivir medication that is used for treatment of Covid-19, Health Minister Ilze Vinkele (For Development/For) said on Twitter.
"Every death is a loss, but when a young person dies, this is especially hard. Today the procedure has been changed and the medication will be available at regional hospitals," said Vinkele.
According to Latvian Television, Remdesivir has until now been stored only at Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital, and regional hospitals had to ship the medication from Riga. From now on, there will be small stocks of Remdesivir in regional hospitals also, so treatment of Covid-19 patients could begin sooner.
As reported, a 27-year-old mother of two died of Covid-19 in Liepaja Hospital on Monday. Latvian Television reported that the women's condition was getting worse very quickly and, since there was no Remdesivir available at Liepaja Hospital, the medication had to be brought from Riga, which took time.
