Ruling Greens/Farmers win local elections in Jurmala
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - Mayor Gatis Truksnis' Union of Greens and Farmers won local elections in Latvia's seaside city Jurmala on Saturday, significantly improving their performance in comparison with the previous elections, the Central Election Commission informed.
The Greens/Farmers ticket, led by Truksnis, received 50.56 percent of all votes cast in the elections in Jurmala.
The National Alliance placed second with 11.67 percent and Harmony came third with 9.72 percent of the vote.
For You, Jurmala party followed with 9.32 percent, the ticket of New Unity and Movement For with 5.21 percent of the vote. Other parties failed to get over the 5 percent vote threshold necessary to get seats on the city council.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
