Rezekne hospital sets aside another 24 beds for Covid-19 patients
RIGA, Dec 10 (LETA) - With the spread of Covid-19 accelerating, the hospital in the eastern Latvian city of Rezekne has set aside another 24 beds for coronavirus patients, the hospital's spokeswoman Laura Sondore informed LETA.
At present, 31 Covid-19 patients, including two with severe symptoms, are being treated at the Rezekne hospital. From October till December 10 the hospital has treated 88 Covid-19 patients, of which 49 have recovered and eight have died.
The additional 24 beds have increased the total number of Covid-19 beds in the Rezeken hospital to 54.
According to information provided by health authorities, around 800 hospital beds in Latvia were set aside for Covid-19 patients at the beginning of December, but the health sector's biggest problem is a shortage of medical staff that could treat the patients.
