Drone from Russia flies into Latvian airspace and explodes
RIGA, March 25 (LETA) - A drone from Russia has flown into Latvian airspace and exploded.
The Ministry of Defense informed LETA that the Air Force has identified a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle entering Latvian airspace from Russia. Early warning systems detected an explosion-like sound in the Kraslava Municipality.
Debris from the drone was found at the scene. Units of the National Armed Forces, the State Police and the State Border Guard are present at the scene.
No further threat to the safety of civilians and Latvian airspace has been identified, the Ministry said, noting that no civilians were injured and no damage was caused to civilian infrastructure.
The circumstances of the incident are being clarified. The Municipality of Kraslava has been informed of the incident.
Minister of Defense Andris Spruds (Progressives) has announced that he has interrupted his working visit to Ukraine in connection with the incident and is returning to Latvia.
