KNAB detains Jekabpils mayor and director of municipal company
RIGA, Jan 22 (LETA) - The Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) has detained Jekabpils Mayor Aivars Kraps (For Latvia's Development) and the director of the municipal company SIA Jekabpils Pakalpojumi Guntars Leitans, according to information obtained by LETA.
LETA has tried to contact both men, but their phones are switched off.
It is not yet known whether both men are still detained by the KNAB, as the bureau is not commenting this matter.
KNAB previously initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of possible irregularities by Jekabpils City Council officials in connection with procurements performed by a municipal company.
KNAB announced yesterday that the bureau had started criminal proceedings on September 21 last year for abuse of office for personal gain and fraud. Yesterday, the bureau performed urgent court-sanctioned criminal proceedings.
