TLT upgrades social transport service with new buses
TALLINN, October 31, 2025 (BNS) - Tallinna Linnatransport (TLT) has acquired ten new Iveco Forveda 50C18 buses to improve the quality of its social transport service for people with special needs. The new vehicles will replace outdated rolling stock, ensuring a more comfortable, accessible, and reliable service.
All new buses are equipped with two wheelchair spaces and comply with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) regulations. Wheelchair users can conveniently board and exit through the rear doors, while other passengers use an electrically operated service door. If necessary, TLT can also provide a wheelchair and additional steps to make boarding easier.
Starting in 2025, TLT will also offer a travel assistant service to help clients get from their doorstep to their destination. The service will be provided by specially trained driver-assistants.
With the addition of these new vehicles, TLT's fleet will include a total of 42 special minibuses dedicated to serving people with special needs in Tallinn who are unable to use regular public transport.
The service is primarily used for regular journeys: 47 percent of trips are to educational institutions, 39 percent to care facilities, nine percent to dialysis centers, and six percent to work.
Additionally, an on-demand service is available for individual trips to healthcare and care facilities.
Ride requests can be made by phone via the TLT call center, by email, or through the information system.
The cost of one bus is 96,250 euros, plus VAT.
TLT employs 1,500 drivers who operate on 80 city routes. The company's fleet includes 557 buses, 42 social transport buses, and 65 trams. Forty new trolleybuses are expected to arrive in the summer of 2026.
